Microsoft anououncing that it will soon be supporting gadgets begs the question: Did Yahoo have any idea that Microsoft was about to get into the mini applet business?
On September 1st, the future of widgets and gadgets seemed all but settled. Developers would go with Konfabulator. After all, it was free. Sure, users would have visit Yahoo and download Konfabulator first but it would be a free download.
Stardock's strategy was one of providing an alternative: Gadgets. Gadgets don't requi...
In my last article, Rewriting DeviantArt history Link I talked about how Scott Jarkoff, the main founder of the art site, DeviantArt, was unceremoniously terminated.
After my article, somebody else posted a link to a leaked email http://probingthetruth.blogspot.com/2005/08/subject-truth-about-deviantart.html that gives rise to some serious questions as to the motivation of why Jarkoff was fired. Scott was asking some tough questions and even though he's a stock holder, he didn't seem to be re...
In the last couple of years computer users have heard a great deal desktop mini-applications called "widgets". These mini-applications come in all shapes and sizes. They come with the ability to both jazz up the user's desktop and make it more functional at the same time. Many a desktop screenshot these days is littered with calendars, clocks, stock tickers, and more all thanks to the popularity of widgets. Even Apple jumped into the act with its release of MacOS "Tig...
I've been playing World of Warcraft for awhile now in terms of calendar months but never have the time to put into it necessary to really getting up in levels.
I've heard rumors that Blizzard is working on an expansion for this Winter. Anyone else hear about that? What would you like to see in such an expansion?
Branded Computer Desktops: The New Marketing StrategyHarris Interactive and Teenage Research Unlimited conducted a survey for Yahoo Inc. proving that teenagers and young adults spend more time in front of their computers than watching television or listening to the radio. To be more effective, marketers must shift their advertising strategy to include the growing demographic of personal computer users as well as find new technologies that will allow them to display a consistent and interac...
We've all seen Brad get flamed when he makes posts and articles and what not that advocate some Stardock program.
The argument goes that only "neutral" observers should be talking about programs. Which I think is total nonsense. If we did that, then it comes down to whose program's supporters are the most vocal without any sort of fairness.
Look what happened with Style XP. When it came out, it got a free ride because people thought it was freeware. The freeware advocates derided WindowBli...
The GUI skinning thing has been going strong for the past 4 years. But what's next? What is Longhorn going to bring to the table? How will it affect skinning?
Where do you think skinning should go next?
I've seen a lot of people trying to say that liberals have no moral values. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of liberals try to say that conservatives come from "Jesus Land".
Conservatives believe in a smaller government in which families and local communities take care of themselves. Liberals believe that a larger government with more resources can help take care of the entire society in a more fair and equal way.
Both sides have their pluses and minuses. Let's not forget that.
Voting for US President is a choice between two men. This year's choice is between George W. Bush and John Kerry. It is the most important job in the world - in the most literal sense.
With George W. Bush, we know his positions. His positions are plainly stated and ones he consistently keeps - sometimes to a fault. In our post-9/11 world, I think we need to know where a candidate stands on certain issues, especially foreign policy. We know that George W. Bush will aggressively fi...
Some people say the United States behaves like a world bully. There's a term for those people: Morons. Pampered morons but morons nevertheless.
Let us pretend that in 1944 when Roosevelt died that his Vice President was actually I. Bully. He was actually the genetic twin of Adolph Hitler. And as World War II came to a close, he instituted a policy of world bullyism. What would he have done and what could have been done about it?
1945: The entire population of Japan is exterminated. Every m...
Islamic terrorists like Osama Bin Laden write an open letters to the American people advising them to eliminate the homosexuals from society. This is one of the demands Al Qaeda has if we want them to stop attacking us.
The same people who then would protest American military action against these hateful bigots then turn around and become amazingly intolerant of Christians who oppose gay marriage on religious grounds.
What do you call someone who, when confronted with a bully, chooses to give in to the bully's demands without a struggle? Answer: A coward. Sadly, the Spanish people have expressed their collective cowardice by switching, after the unjustified attack on their people, from a government commited to battling bullies to one that appeases them.
Lesson learned? Murder innocents prior to an election and you stand a chance to influence their elections. So Spanish cowardice will create an incentive ...
They call it the stomach flu. But it's not really that. It's an intestinal virus. And if that's not bad, how you catch it is actually worse. Suffice to say it's not airborn. I don't know how I get it. I don't undrestand why so many people get it. But I've got it and some of my coworkers have gotten it. Not from me. But from their kids just like I probably somehow got mine from my kids.
Kids are plague bags! Yuck though as I just can't wait to going back to eating solid food.
The new Tomb Raider game, Angel of Darkness is garbage. Total crap. No legitimate magazine could possibly have played the game and concluded that this was a good game.
So what did the game mags say? Did they let us down and shill for a big publisher? Or did they tell it straight? I'm happy to say that they told us the truth!
